Create a Household

A household is a family living at one address. Church HQ uses it to group people for Kids Check-In, for giving statements and for messages, so it is worth setting up for families you see often.

Create a household from a person’s record

1. Open People in the sidebar and choose the person.

2. In the Household panel, choose Create a household for [name].

   

Church HQ names it after their last name, for example Carver Household, and makes that person the head of the household.

Add the rest of the family

Once a household exists, the Household panel has a search box for adding anyone else already in your records.

1. Choose the role they have in the family: Head of Household, Spouse, Child, Other Adult or Other.
2. Type their name in Search for a Person and choose them from the list. People already in this household are left out of it.
3. Choose Add to Household.

They appear in the family list straight away, and the household shows on their own record too.

Two other ways build a household without doing this by hand:

• Kids Check-In’s new family form adds the parents and children into one household in one go when a family arrives for the first time. See Check In a New Family.
• An import with a household column puts whole families in at once, which is how most churches start. See Import People from a Spreadsheet.

Remove someone from a household

On their record, in the Household panel, choose Remove [name] from this household and confirm. They stay in your people, with no household until they join one.

Relationships are not the same thing

Relationships on a person’s record record how two people are connected (parent, child, spouse, guardian), whoever they live with. A grandmother in her own household can still be recorded as the grandparent of a child in another one. Adding a relationship does not move anyone into a household.
